UTEP Edge Champion Awards
The UTEP Edge Champion Awards recognize faculty, staff, and teams who exemplify excellence in integrating and championing Edge practices (i.e., Edge Experiences, Edge Advantages, and/or Edge Components) to foster student success. These awards celebrate those who inspire innovation, collaboration, and impact in advancing the UTEP Edge mission across the university.
Award Categories
- Edge Faculty Champion Award
Recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in integrating Edge practices into their teaching, mentorship, or research to enhance student learning and success.
- Edge Staff Champion Award
Celebrates a staff member who has gone above and beyond in promoting Edge practices through their work in student services, co-curricular programs, or administrative roles.
Honors a department, unit, or office that has collaboratively implemented Edge practices to create meaningful and measurable impact on student engagement and success in a team of two or more.
How to Nominate
Nominations are open to peers, supervisors, and students—and self-nominations are encouraged!

AWARD CRITERIA
1. Edge Faculty Champion Award
- Integration of Edge Practices: Demonstrates innovative use of Edge Experiences, Advantages, or Components (e.g., timely feedback, public demonstration of competence, opportunity to reflect on learning) in course design, assignments, or mentorship.
- Impact on Students: Provides evidence of how their work has enhanced student engagement, development, and preparation for future aspirations (e.g., career or graduate school).
- Collaboration and Sharing: Actively shares best practices or collaborates with colleagues to expand the integration of Edge principles within their department or across campus.
2. Edge Staff Champion Award
- Promotion of Edge Practices: Develops or delivers programs, services, or initiatives that align with Edge principles (e.g., Edge Experiences, Advantages, Components).
- Student-Centered Innovation: Demonstrates creative approaches to supporting students’ personal and professional growth through Edge practices.
- Collaboration Across Campus: Builds partnerships with faculty, staff, or other units to strengthen the reach and effectiveness of Edge initiatives.
3. Edge Team Champion Award
- Collaborative Integration of Edge Practices: Works as a team of two or more to implement Edge practices in a way that promotes student engagement and success.
- Measurable Impact: Provides evidence (e.g., testimonials, data, or outcomes) of how their programs or initiatives have positively influenced student development.
- Innovation and Sustainability: Demonstrates innovative and sustainable practices that can be replicated or scaled across the university.
SELECTION PROCESS
- Evaluation Committee: A committee of UTEP Edge leaders, faculty, staff, and students will evaluate nominations based on the award criteria.
- Announcement: Winners will be announced at the UTEP Edge Symposium Welcome Mixer on April 22nd, where they will be recognized for their outstanding contributions.
